How this lookup works

The check runs entirely in your browser. The number is not sent to a server, stored, or recorded in analytics.
The lookup removes spaces and hyphens, requires exactly ten digits, and verifies the NPI check digit with the same rule CMS uses (the Luhn formula with the 80840 prefix).
A valid number opens /npi/<number>/. If this directory does not publish that record, you will see a not-found page that explains why and links to the official registry.
A valid format does not prove that the NPI is active, that it belongs to a particular provider, or that this directory publishes it. This site publishes a fixed subset of records from one monthly NPPES snapshot; the official NPPES NPI Registry is the authoritative, current source.
