About NPI Directory
NPI Directory is an independent website that turns one public government data file into readable, source-backed pages about National Provider Identifiers. It is run as an experiment to learn whether plainly presented public registry data is useful to people searching the web.
Independence
This site is not operated by, affiliated with, or endorsed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES), Medicare, the American Medical Association (AMA), or the National Uniform Claim Committee (NUCC). The official registry is the NPPES NPI Registry.
Data source and date
All provider facts come from the CMS NPPES data dissemination release NPPES Data Dissemination August 2026 V2, released August 10, 2026 and downloaded from the CMS NPI Files page. The site publishes 18,000 profiles selected from 9,302,551 eligible active records, plus 51 state and 1,937 city directories. What an NPI does and does not mean
An NPI is a ten-digit administrative identifier used in health care transactions. A record here shows only that CMS had enumerated that NPI and reported it as active in the snapshot, together with the location and taxonomy fields the provider submitted. It does not establish licensure, credentialing, board certification, quality, insurance participation, employment, or current practice status. For those facts consult state licensing boards, payers, and the provider directly.
Corrections
The underlying record can be changed only through CMS. The corrections page explains how providers update NPPES, how to report a presentation problem on this site, and how to request that a practice address or telephone number be suppressed here. Privacy and terms
The site sets no cookies, runs no analytics scripts, and loads no third-party resources. The privacy notice lists what minimal logs may exist, and the terms of use describe the conditions for using the pages.
